Teaching people to fish

As the ancient proverb says “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. Well, you don’t need to be a man, or even like eating fish - anyone can take control of their financial future if they’re empowered through technology and educated along the way.

Let’s face it, the topic of finance has been a pretty epic failure in the UK’s education system.

How many of you left school without ever being taught the basics of personal finance, or even how “money works”? These failures in the curriculum leave room for misunderstanding and misinformation to take hold.

Financial education only became a part of the compulsory national curriculum in England in September 2014.

We have seen this played out with some of the comments we’ve received across social media.

People’s fear of losing their hard-earned money leads them to see any form of investing as gambling. These fears have been made worse by the rise of day trading apps and the horror stories of people losing all their life's savings on risky investments.

Comparing investing in a “stock market index fund” to “day trading” is like saying you’re taking just as much risk riding the number 12 bus as you are hurtling down the street on a motor bike

That’s why Kaldi hasn’t just set out to make an app that can enable smarter savings without even thinking about it, but to educate along the way. Making money matters simple to understand. So you can feel confident you’re making the right decisions for you and your life.
